Personality: 

Committed/Determined - For better or worse, Poe does not like to back down. In the best outcomes, this leads him to be a selfless and fearless leader. He is willing to die for what he believes in, and will face any odds head on if he believes he's fighting for what's right. The downside to this can mean that if Poe lacks part of the story he will still push will full force to an end he believes is right, where he might not have had he taken the time to think things through. Similarly, as a leader, he is learning the hard lesson of when the best choice is to back down to fight again another day. Lives have been lost to his decisions, and as he grows and learns he is trying to figure out how to keep the balance.

Proud - Poe has a great deal of pride and confidence in himself and his cause. He believes in himself, his skills and his talents, and that belief has gotten him out of some scrapes he otherwise might not have made it through. That pride can also be his downfall, sometimes clouding him from accepting a different course of action than the one he believes is best.

Humorous - Poe enjoys joking and teasing, a playful person by nature. He will also use this to help mask his fears, or uncertainty in any given situation. It's much easier to play unaffected when you're joking in the face of death then let them know how you really feel.

Adventurous - Poe is a risk taker and a thrill seeker. He has the spirit of a true pilot, always ready for action. Without the war, Poe would still need some kind of adventure in his life. Maybe not the kind where he's getting shot at, but he'll never be content with an idle life.

Self Sacrificing- Poe is 100% ready and prepared to die for the cause. It is a miracle he hasn't yet. Even under torture Poe was prepared to die rather than give up what he knew, and it was only through having the knowledge forcibly taken from his mind that he gave it up.

Due to the nature of war, and his position as a leader, this can mean he has to make the hard choices that may lead to the death of his team. His own self sacrificing nature may colour some of his judgement, believing they too would die to see the mission completed, and in most cases he would probably be right.

Given the opportunity he is the one out there, heading the charge, or lone wolfing it to give others the best chance to survive. By the end of The Last Jedi, he is ordering Finn not to make the same move he likely would have earlier, proving he has learned a great deal from Holdo and her sacrifice.

Abilities: 

'Best Pilot in the Resistance' - Poe has been flying since he was six years old, and most definitely has inherited his mother's skills. While he primarily pilots an x-wing, he often boasts that he can 'fly anything'. He was able to figure out the controls to a TIE fighter in a matter of minutes, while under fire, and has also been shown to be capable of piloting a Pinnacle-class luxury ship, and a rundown freighter.

He is also noted as being quite fond of in atmospheric missions, which is apparently less common among starfighter pilots, enjoying 'soaring through skies and skimming the surfaces of planets'.

Military Training - Poe was a member of the New Republic Defense Fleet, serving as a Commander before he would eventually leave to join the Resistance, given the New Republic's refusal to take action against the First Order. He was trained by Wedge Antilles, Rebel veteran, and considered one of his best students.

In addition to his piloting skills, he is a capable infantryman, and skilled with unarmed combat.

Speaks/Understands Binary (27th generation droidspeak) - He can understand BB-8 without needing to read translated speech via console. This seems to be a relatively uncommon thing among pilots.

Speaks Basic - The language most commonly spoken in addition to whatever language may be native to your homeworld/species.

Leader - In a professional capacity, Poe has been the Captain/Commander of various Squadrons. He is a natural born sort of leader, charismatic, and inspiring great loyalty from his fellow pilots, making tough decision/calls. He is still learning what it takes to become the most capable leader he can be.
