[Event] Into The Deep Blue Yonder

Into The Deep Blue Yonder

Waking up not entirely certain of where one was can hardly be considered new territory for most He Rows. Happenings like that were just another bump in the metaphorical road they had been placed upon. But waking up uncertain of where one happened to be while also feeling weightless, well that would be far less common, now wouldn't it?

Awoken by a voice that crashed and roared like waves on a beach and the number of He Rows who had gone through something like this before probably dwindled the low single digits. If even that many.

"Rouse thyselves! Her Majesty summons you!"

The command is punctuated by the sound of some sort of horn.

Game 'Ending' Announcement (Don't Worry, Not Soon)

The Final Adventures of the He Rows of Agra-10!!

Hello all. Yes, that title line is what it looks like. The Revival Project has been a home for many of us for years now, whether the whole time or on and off, and partings are sad times. That said, we've got good news to go with that. So let's start there.

Just because The Revival Project is coming to a close doesn't mean it's immediate. We couldn't leave you all without closure, could we? The great news is that the mod team has been shaping and preparing for the close of TRP for about two years now, pushing us ever closer to what we hope is a satisfying conclusion. So we've got a great timeline of events roughed out for the close of TRP. Which, at our current glance, should be in November 2026. Yep, we're giving you a big heads up! After that the game goes into Sandbox Mode for you to choose to play with or not to your heart's content.

Why do we wanna offer you that much time? Well, think of the stories we need to wrap up. The origins of the Agrii, how you got here, whether the Atroma are involved or not. Plus, of course, getting the He Rows home. There are adventures in reserve and we intend to offer them.

What does this mean for format? Well, except in specific situations we'll be removing the smaller events like beach parties, holidays, and other silly things. There will still be player driven months because of the needs of mods, but it's all gonna be ready in advance.

What about AC? Well, we're doing away with that. Through the end of the game we'll be check-in only. But we will still require check-ins from our players, or at least hiatuses. This is because we need to keep track of who is around for ships and because...

We're welcoming back any and all previous characters! Have you played a character before and sent them home? Did you have to give someone up because of time constraints? Do you have old friends who were in TRP but had to go for any reason? They are welcome back now! All a player needs to bring an old character back is reply to their original acceptance comment and put in community join requests and they'll be back. If your old application or character journal is gone, see the next paragraph. We do request OOC posts to let people know characters are back but don't require it.

What about new applications? Well, we're definitely still welcoming them. The application process will not be changing beyond the TDM. If players don't want to drop into the TDM, we just ask for a link to a thread with at least five action tags with the character from the last year. From anywhere. Just make sure it's not a NSFW thread. Referrals will still result in rewards for people of course.

What about character and cast limits? This is why we care about check-ins. Through the end of the game the answer is 'there are none'. We will require the usual 'canons must be at least out for a month' rule to be continued. But if there were three Bucky Barnes characters (it has happened), we could accept another three more. We do still require that players not take multiple characters that would have close personal interactions between them to avoid solo-player threads. And we will require that characters still be distinct from each other, so AUs, CRAUs, different instances of canon, etc are required for each new application.

As for those who may not wish to linger with us to the end, we are so happy to have had you here on our journey.

We hope these good things help mitigate the sorrow of a game moving toward its conclusion. And we also hope you'll stick with us through the end. After all, we're reviving this world and the Agrii together.

Why is this happening now?

What follows now is a message from Churby.

Hi all. For reasons I won't go into as a respect for the privacy of others, much of the running of The Revival Project has come into my hands in recent months. Even in a small game, running everything mostly alone can be hard. I've had support, and no major decisions have ever been made without a moderator vote and okays (including this one), but things got rough. This led to our asking for support behind the scenes to take some things off of my plate and help ensure success in other areas.

But what it comes down to is my health. The slow decline since the great shut in times has been speeding up quite rapidly. The changes between January and April were shocking enough, and the decline since then has been intense. Being able to achieve even the small tasks of life has gotten harder, and while fun has been great with roleplaying everywhere, running something has become too much.

It pains me to make this decision not because we got to the proper timing but because of my health. But as a friend reminded me recently, it's not good to light myself on fire to keep others warm. And while I'm not at that point, when looking at my life I do see the metaphorical match in my hand. I need this. I need the space, I need the time, I need to be a follower and not a leader.

I know this isn't really the sort of thing people expect apologies for, but I want to offer one anyway. I am sorry I wasn't able to carry us further. I am sorry if my failure to recognize my needs may have negatively impacted the game to this point. But know that I am trying my best, first for me and my family, then for us all.

Thank you all for the time together and all of the memories. I can't begin to tell you how much I cherish them.

Fall 2025 TDM!

FALL TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! the ships! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Code deploy happening shortly

Per the [site community profile] dw_news post regarding the MS/TN blocks, we are doing a small code push shortly in order to get the code live. As per usual, please let us know if you see anything wonky.

There is some code cleanup we've been doing that is going out with this push but I don't think there is any new/reworked functionality, so it should be pretty invisible if all goes well.

Mississippi site block, plus a small restriction on Tennessee new accounts

A reminder to everyone that starting tomorrow, we are being forced to block access to any IP address that geolocates to the state of Mississippi for legal reasons while we and Netchoice continue fighting the law in court. People whose IP addresses geolocate to Mississippi will only be able to access a page that explains the issue and lets them know that we'll be back to offer them service as soon as the legal risk to us is less existential.

The block page will include the apology but I'll repeat it here: we don't do geolocation ourselves, so we're limited to the geolocation ability of our network provider. Our anti-spam geolocation blocks have shown us that their geolocation database has a number of mistakes in it. If one of your friends who doesn't live in Mississippi gets the block message, there is nothing we can do on our end to adjust the block, because we don't control it. The only way to fix a mistaken block is to change your IP address to one that doesn't register as being in Mississippi, either by disconnecting your internet connection and reconnecting it (if you don't have a static IP address) or using a VPN.

In related news, the judge in our challenge to Tennessee's social media age verification, parental consent, and parental surveillance law (which we are also part of the fight against!) ruled last month that we had not met the threshold for a temporary injunction preventing the state from enforcing the law while the court case proceeds.

The Tennesee law is less onerous than the Mississippi law and the fines for violating it are slightly less ruinous (slightly), but it's still a risk to us. While the fight goes on, we've decided to prevent any new account signups from anyone under 18 in Tennessee to protect ourselves against risk. We do not need to block access from the whole state: this only applies to new account creation.

Because we don't do any geolocation on our users and our network provider's geolocation services only apply to blocking access to the site entirely, the way we're implementing this is a new mandatory question on the account creation form asking if you live in Tennessee. If you do, you'll be unable to register an account if you're under 18, not just the under 13 restriction mandated by COPPA. Like the restrictions on the state of Mississippi, we absolutely hate having to do this, we're sorry, and we hope we'll be able to undo it as soon as possible.

Finally, I'd like to thank every one of you who's commented with a message of support for this fight or who's bought paid time to help keep us running. The fact we're entirely user-supported and you all genuinely understand why this fight is so important for everyone is a huge part of why we can continue to do this work. I've also sent a lot of your comments to the lawyers who are fighting the actual battles in court, and they find your wholehearted support just as encouraging and motivating as I do. Thank you all once again for being the best users any social media site could ever hope for. You make me proud and even more determined to yell at state attorneys general on your behalf.
